Michi OE8YML was able to successfully carry out the POTA activation Görtschacher Moos (Park AT-0091 Görtschacher Moos – Obermoos) in the Gailtal on September 17th, 2023. This POTA activation Görtschacher Moos was not only a further step in Michi’s activations, but also a wonderful opportunity to combine the beauty of nature and the joy of radio operations. The Görtschacher Moos Park offers an impressive backdrop with its diverse flora and fauna, making it a perfect place for outdoor activities.
For the POTA activation, Michi used both shortwave and 2m FM in order to reach as many QSOs as possible. The use of two different operating modes shows not only his versatility as a radio amateur, but also the advantages of different frequencies in different conditions. While shortwave often enables longer distances, 2m FM offers direct and local communication, which is particularly valued in mountainous regions such as the Gailtal.
A special highlight of the POTA activation Görtschacher Moos was the opportunity to achieve Park2Park QSOs. Michi was thrilled when he was able to contact Anna-Maria OE8YAK and Chris OE8CKK, who were activating the park IT-0946 Conca di Fusine at the same time. This type of connection, where two parks are activated at the same time, not only represents a special success, but also promotes community among radio amateurs and shows how interconnected the xOTA community is. Such QSOs strengthen friendships and the common interest in radio operations.
The collaboration between the activators helps to further increase interest in Parks on the Air (POTA). Michi is very grateful for the support and commitment of his radio friends who activate the parks and thus contribute to a lively radio operation. He hopes that in the future even more radio amateurs will take the opportunity to activate parks and share the joy of mountain radio with others.
