FunkPilot is your new AI assistant that was developed specifically for radio amateurs. It answers questions about amateur radio topics, helps with calculations and supports you in contest operations – all directly in the browser, without installation.
What can FunkPilot do?
FunkPilot combines several tools in one application:
🤖 QSO chat assistant
The core of FunkPilot is an AI chat that specializes in amateur radio questions. You can ask questions about:
- Technology – antennas, transmitters, receivers, cables
- Operating procedures – Q codes, RST reports, contest processes
- Regulations – Amateur Radio Act, band limits, power limits
- Propagation – Which bands are currently open?
- Digimodes – FT8, JS8Call, RTTY and more
The assistant has a “Ham Spirit” personality – he answers like an experienced OM, uses typical amateur radio terms and closes with “73”.
💬 Chat history with multiple conversations
New: FunkPilot saves your chats locally in the browser. You can:
- Have multiple conversations and switch between them
- Access old chats later
- Delete chats that are no longer needed
On desktop devices, you’ll see a permanent sidebar with all chats. On mobile devices, the list opens via the menu icon.
🔧 Integrated Ham Radio Tools
With Groq as an AI backend, the chat assistant has access to the OERadio MCP Server and can carry out calculations directly:
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Band plan | IARU Region 1 query band boundaries |
| Wavelength | Frequency → wavelength + Antenna dimensions |
| EIRP | Calculate effective radiated power |
| Cable loss | Attenuation for each cable type |
| SWR loss | Power loss due to mismatch |
| Battery life | Plan for Portable operation |
| Power | Watt ↔ dBm conversion |
Just ask: “How long does my dipole have to be for 40m?” or “Compare RG58 and Ecoflex 15 at 10m length to 2m”.
